BIOS - CONFIGURATION WIZARD
Description of purpose:
The BIOS is a special software that interfaces the major
hardware components of your computer with the operating system it runs as part
of the start up sequence when you switch on your computer, the BIOS contains all
the code required to control the hardware e.g. keyboard, monitor, mouse, the
BIOS is stored separately from the hard DISK on a ROM chip which means that if
the computer crashes the BIOS data is protected
How it communicates with other components:
It is usually stored on a flash memory chip on the motherboard
but sometimes the chip is another type of ROM. When the computer is turned on
the BIOS does several things including checking the CMOS setup for custom
settings, initialize registers and power management, display system settings and
determine which devices are bootable. And so on.
