HDMI PORT (HIGH DEFINITION MULTIMEDIA INTERFACE)
Description of purpose: The HDMI is an external slot and is a digital audio/video/data connector; the main use of this component is to connect components such as DVD players to a high definition television (HDTV). It transmits digital video, multi channel surround sound, and control data through a single cable
How it communicates with other components: HDMI uses transition minimized differential signalling (TMDS) to move information from one place to another. TMDS is a way of encoding the signal to protect it from degrading as it travels down the length of the cable. The sending device (such as a computer) encodes the signal to reduce the number of transitions between 1 & 0 , one of the cables twisted pair carries the signal itself but may get lost along the way , the encoding step helps to protect the signal quality by reducing the number of chances for the signal to degrade, the receiving device such as the computer ,decodes the signal and measures the difference between the signal and its inverse
