INPUT DEVICES
Description of purpose The mouse provides an easy and efficient way of making selections to the computer, its point and click format allows users to open files, select apps, input text etc.; the mouse has evolved from the command and prompt format from the ancient ages and now allows users to completely take control of the computer by physically making selections via this device.
How it communicates with other components
Modern computer mouse’s are now Light emitting diode that bounces light off onto a surface, the CMOS detector in the mouse sends each image to a digital signal processor (DSP) for analysis, the DSP operating at 18 MIPS (MILLION INSTRUCTIONS PER SECOND) is able to detect patterns in the images and see how those patterns have moved since the previous image

Description of purpose: A keyboard is used to send commands and manipulate the system by inputting data into its files and applications. A keyboard can also translate numbers, letters and special characters into electrical signals which are processed by the system itself.
How it communicates with other components: Keyboards normally connect to a computer via USB ports which transmit the keyboards input into the computer and also power the keyboards internal components, As you type the keyboard analyses the key matrix and determines what characters to send to the computer, whether it’s through a cable or wireless, the signal from the keyboard is monitored by the computers keyboard controller and the data transmitted is forwarded to the operating system.
